ACQUISITION OF EXCLUSIVE UEFA RIGHTS IN POLAND

22 March 2024

CANAL+ GROUP ACQUIRES EXCLUSIVE BROADCAST RIGHTS TO THE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, UEFA YOUTH LEAGUE AND UEFA SUPER CUP IN POLAND

CANAL+ Group has acquired exclusive broadcast rights to all matches of UEFA Champions League, UEFA Youth League and UEFA Super Cup matches for the 2024/25, 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons in Poland.

Lewandowski, MBappé, Salah, Haaland, Vinicius Junior, De Bruyne, Bukayo Saka, Odegaard... The greatest footballers in the world, the best European clubs and the most prestigious UEFA competition are back on CANAL+. The first event to be broadcast by CANAL+ in Poland will be the UEFA Super Cup, which will be played at the National Stadium in Warsaw in August. This will be followed by the first phase of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Youth League, which will be shown on CANAL+ and on the CANAL+ online streaming service.

Thanks to the new UEFA Champions League format, CANAL+ viewers will experience even greater football excitement. The number of participating teams will increase from 32 to 36, and the number of matches from 138 to 204. The revamped competition and the increased number of teams will also mean fewer breaks in the action, with matches being played every month from August to May.

From the 2024/25 season, the group stage will be replaced by a league phase in which each team will play eight matches - four at home and four away - instead of the current six. From the 1/8th final onwards, the competition will continue with the current knockout format.

Alongside the UEFA Champions League, viewers of CANAL+ and the CANAL+ online service will be able to follow the best matches of the UEFA Youth League.

Edyta Sadowska, President and CEO of CANAL+ Poland, said: “Sport has been in CANAL+’s DNA for almost 30 years, and we make sure to offer our Polish viewers the best sporting events and unforgettable emotions. The UEFA Champions League is the best evidence of this, and we are therefore honoured to announce this news to all fans who have been waiting for the return of the greatest European football to CANAL+.”

The UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Youth League and the UEFA Super Cup are further sports rights that add to CANAL+'s rich portfolio in the Polish market. CANAL+ broadcasts there all PKO BP Ekstraklasa matches, selected Premier League matches, LaLiga EA Sports, PGE Ekstraliga (world's best speedway league), as well as matches from the NBA, and tennis tournaments from the WTA Tour series.

The CANAL+ Group operates in Poland with 3 million subscribers and is delighted to extend its lasting relationship with UEFA there. CANAL+ Group currently has rights to UEFA club competitions in more than 50 countries including in France, Switzerland, Sub-Saharan Africa, Myanmar, or Haiti, and in Austria from next season.
