THE CANAL+ GROUP IS A GLOBAL MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT GROUP WITH LEADING POSITIONS IN HIGH-GROWTH AND MATURE MARKETS

Founded as a French subscription-TV channel 40 years ago, the CANAL+ group is now a global media and entertainment company with a brand recognised worldwide amongst the Top 50 Most Valuable French Brands*. The CANAL+ group has 26.8 million subscribers worldwide, over 400 million monthly active users on its OTT and video streaming platforms, and a total of approximately 9,000 employees. It generates revenues in 195 countries and operates directly in 52 countries, with leading positions in 20 of them. It operates across the entire audio-visual value chain, including production, broadcast, distribution and aggregation. A unique media company with a balanced geographical footprint in both high-growth and mature markets, the CANAL+ group has significant equity stakes across Europe, Asia and Africa, namely in Viaplay (the Pay-TV leader in Scandinavia), Viu (a leading OTT platform in Southern-Asia) and Multichoice (the Pay-TV leader in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa), in addition to its direct activities.

EUROPE

THE CANAL+ GROUP IS ONE OF THE LARGEST PLAYERS IN THE EUROPEAN MEDIA MARKET. THE GROUP IS THE MARKET LEADER IN FRANCE, THE SECOND LARGEST PLAYER IN POLAND AND SLOVAKIA, AND THE THIRD LARGEST PLAYER IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC.

Europe encompasses the CANAL+ group’s subscription-TV (live and on-demand, mostly through CANAL+ premium offers & its CANAL+’s over-the-top (OTT) and super aggregation platform) and advertising-supported free-to-air TV businesses across mainland France, the French Overseas and adjacent territories, Poland, Central Europe and Benelux (through its wholly owned subsidiary M7) and the Nordics (through a minority interest in Viaplay) as well as telecommunication services in the French Overseas Territories. As of year-end 2023, the CANAL+ group had a total subscriber base of 17.4 million in Europe.

AFRICA AND ASIA

THE CANAL+ GROUP IS THE UNDISPUTED LEADER IN 19 COUNTRIES IN FRENCH-SPEAKING SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA AND RANKS AMONGST THE TOP 3 SUBSCRIPTION-TV AND OTT PROVIDERS IN MYANMAR

Africa and Asia encompasses the group’s subscription-TV and advertising-supported free-to-air TV businesses and CanalOlympia venues across French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa as well as subscription-TV business in Vietnam, Myanmar and Pacific territories. The CANAL+ group operates across markets in Africa and Asia, where it had approximately 9.5 million subscribers as of year-end 2023. It has operated in Africa for over 30 years. The group is the leading subscription-TV operator in 19 French-speaking African countries, with the CANAL+ brand enjoying an average brand awareness of 96% in 12 of the main African markets in which it operates. The CANAL+ group has also maintained a strong presence in Vietnam for over 15 years and in Myanmar for 6 years, ranking amongst the top three subscription-TV and OTT providers in Myanmar.

CANAL+ OPERATES A NETWORK OF IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES AROUND THE WORLD AND BRINGS THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE CONTENT OFFERING TO SUBSCRIBERS ACROSS MAJOR MARKETS

Operating across the entire audio-visual value chain, the CANAL+ group produces and distributes content, including both international box office hits, and compelling local stories that resonate with its audiences. The group is home to STUDIOCANAL, a leading film and television studio with worldwide production and distribution capabilities. STUDIOCANAL is the creative powerhouse behind box office hits such as the Paddington series of films, Back to Black, The Wolf and the Lion and Around the World in 80 Days. It operates directly in 9 major European markets, holding stakes, directly or through other entities of the group, in 19 production companies. STUDIOCANAL holds a library of over 9,400 titles, including 80 world-renowned film awards. Across CANAL+, the group produces around 200 films, over 80 televisions series and over 5,400 hours of unscripted content annually.

The CANAL+ group also operates:

  • Dailymotion, one of the world’s largest short-form video streaming platforms;
  • Thema, a production and distribution company specialising in creating and distributing diverse content and channels;
  • The iconic performance venues L’Olympia and Théâtre de l’Œuvre in Paris.
